The South Baltimore Gateway Partnership (SBGP) awards community grants to support projects across South and Southwest Baltimore.
Below is a partial list of grant awards:
Southwest Community Council Incorporated dba Citizens of Pigtown: Grant award for communications & engagement support to implement a robust communications strategy, strengthen branding and marketing, and execute impactful community events: $10,000.00
Food Rescue Baltimore: Grant award for 2024 operating support for continuation of weekly food giveaways in the Pigtown neighborhood with at least 45 weekly giveaways during the funding period: $5,000.00
Riverside Neighborhood Association: Grant award for Riverside Park maintenance support to install rubber swing mats at the playground, new trash inserts into trash cans, and replace a missing bench within the park: $5,000.00
Federal Hill Neighborhood Association: Grant award for Federal Hill public space support for the annual Federal Hill 4th of July parade: $2,000.00
Leadenhall Baptist Church: Grant award for Pantry on the Go support for stabilization and refurbishment of a food distribution site for the Sharp-Leadenhall community. The project will positively impact and improve the health of the residents by addressing, mitigating, and alleviating food insecurity: $100,000.00
RICH – Restoring Inner City Hope, Inc: RICH Youth Workforce Development Program. Grant award for support for RICH’s Workforce Development initiative, offering employment skill development and a sense of fiscal responsibility for Cherry Hill youth hired as RICH Juice Bar employees: $98,410.00
Cherry Hill Development Corporation: Program Capacity Building. Grant award for support for staff salaries, health insurance, and a fundraising consultant for services aimed to reduce blight and promote homeownership opportunities: $72,000.00
Cherry Hill Eagles Foundation LLC: Grant award for resource center support for new programming related to economic mobility services, education/tutoring, health and wellness services, and workforce development training for Cherry Hill families: $49,999.00
Improving Education Inc.: All Children Ready – Westport. Grant award for support to increase literacy achievement in Head Start and Pre-K programs while developing scalable practices that can be used to improve kindergarten readiness: $49,000.00

The next deadline for Community Grants is coming: August 30, 2024 at 5:00pm
How are Applications Evaluated?
To ensure fairness, applications are scored by a committee of volunteers, most of whom live or work in the District, using the following criteria to evaluate applications:
- Quality of the plan and timeline
- Realistic budget
- Applicant is capable of accomplishing the project
- Quality of partnerships
- Quality of outcomes
- Quality of implementation methods
- Alignment with the Strategic Plan criteria and priority funding areas
Who is Eligible to Apply?
The following will help give you an idea of what groups may qualify for what grant category: Spark – Small – Medium and Large programs.
Spark (Up to $2,000) and Small (Up to $5,000)
- Non-profit organization with 501(c) (3) tax-exempt status.
- Mission-based organization (e.g. a neighborhood association) without 501(c) (3) tax exempt status but with a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor.
- Faith-based organization with a 501(c) (3) tax-exempt
- School or government agency.
- Unincorporated community organization or group of active community residents with a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor.
Medium (Below $50,000) and Large $5,000) (Up to $100,000)
- Non-profit organization with 501(c) (3) tax-exempt status.
- Mission-based organization (e.g. a neighborhood association) without 501(c) (3) tax exempt status but with a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor.
- Faith-based organization with a 501(c) (3) tax-exempt
- School or government agency.
In order to be eligible to apply, your project must serve or otherwise benefit the residents, businesses, institutions or organizations of the District. Click here for a map of the neighborhoods where we work.

All grant applications (for spark, small, medium, and large grants) must be submitted electronically through through SBGP’s web portal. (Paper based or emailed applications will NOT be accepted.)
